Death Records (Social Security)

The Social Security Death Index (SSDI)  contains the names, social security numbers, place of last residence and birth and (some) death dates of individuals who were assigned Social Security numbers and whose death was reported to the Social Security Administration. Most of the records are for individuals whose deaths were recorded after 1965. Once you have retrieved a record from the SSDI you can contact the Social Security Administration to request a copy of the individual's Application for Social Security, which will include more information, including  maiden name and names of parents. For more information about Social Security records, click here.
